Instructions:

For the Rotkrauttascherl first prepare the dough. Mix all ingredients and make a yeast dough. Leave to rise for 30 minutes.

For the filling, finely chop the onion and fry in butter. Add finely chopped cabbage, sliced apples, salt, herb salt, vinegar and spices and steam until half soft.

Fry the smoked meat separately. Mix cabbage, smoked meat and sour cream – possibly season a little more. Roll out dough relatively thinly, cut or cut out pockets, fill and place on baking paper.

Sprinkle with plenty of water and let rise briefly in a lukewarm oven. Bake in the preheated oven at 180 °C for about 25 minutes until golden brown.
