For the Maritozzi con la panna, dissolve the yeast and sugar in the lukewarm milk. Pour the flour into a small mound, make a well in the center, pour all the dough ingredients into the well and knead with your hands to form a homogeneous dough.

Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let it rise for at least 90 minutes, until the dough has doubled in size. Then shape the dough into 10 equal-sized loaves, place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover with a fresh tea towel and let rise again for an hour.

Whisk the egg yolk with the milk and brush the loaves with it. Bake the Maritozzi in a preheated oven at 170 °C for about 15 minutes.

Let the Maritozzi cool down, then whip the whipped cream, sweeten with vanilla sugar and fill the Maritozzi with it.

Serve the Maritozzi with powdered sugar.
