For the brown bread cake, peel the apples, quarter them and remove the core.
Cut the apples into slices and mix with sugar.
Grate the brown bread and mix the crumbs with sugar, cinnamon, currants and orange zest.
Grease a baking dish and layer the apples and bread alternately, starting with brown bread. Starting with the second layer of brown bread, spread butter flakes on top.
Keep pressing the layers well. As the last layer bot, and again spread butter flakes on top.
Bake the brown bread cake at 170 °C for about one hour.
