For the onion soup, peel the onions and cut them into large slices.

Melt the butter in a large saucepan and brown the onions in it until golden. For the chicken soup, chop the vegetables and boil all the ingredients for 20 minutes with 1 1/2 liters of water.

Then sprinkle the flour on top and stir briefly. Deglaze with port wine and add the soup. Simmer on low heat for 20 minutes. Then season with salt and pepper.

In the meantime, toast the bread slices in the toaster or in the oven until light brown and cut into small pieces.

Divide the croutons among the soup bowl and pour the soup on top. Depending on your preference, you can sprinkle some more cheese on top of the soup.

Bake the onion soup in the oven with the grill function for 3-5 minutes until crispy.
