For the cognac punch, put the water in a saucepan with the spices and bring to a boil. Remove from heat. Allow to infuse for 10 minutes and strain.

Add the red wine and heat again but do not boil.

Cut the lemon into slices.

Pour the cognac punch into heat-resistant glasses, top with a slice of lemon and pour the cognac over it.
