For the Faschingskrapfen with vanilla, first prepare the vanilla cream. Mix the milk, sugar and vanilla sugar and bring to the boil just briefly. Make sure that nothing overflows! Mix the pudding powder with the whipped cream, stir briskly into the hot liquid and bring everything to the boil again. Season to taste with rum and allow to cool. Now prepare the dampfl and the yeast dough. Just follow our instructions from the recipe “Faschingskrapfen Basic Recipe” or follow the “Faschingskrapfen Step-by-Step Instructions”.

Roll out risen yeast dough to 4-5 mm thickness, cut out circles (diameter 6 cm), brush edges lightly with beaten egg, spread vanilla cream in the center of the circles (about 1 teaspoon full), place second dough circle on top, press edges and cut straight again.

Let rise in a warm, non-drafty place, covered again until doubled in size, about 1 hour. Then bake doughnuts floating in hot fat, covered, until light brown on one side. Cover pan and bake second side until light brown.

Drain carnival doughnuts and sprinkle with powdered sugar while still hot.
