For the chocolate cake with nuts, first break the chocolate into pieces and roughly chop the butter. Heat both together with the whipping cream in a small saucepan until the butter and chocolate have melted. Set the saucepan aside and allow to cool.

Preheat the oven to 200 °C top/bottom heat (convection oven 180 °C). Line a deep baking tray with baking paper.

Beat eggs with vanilla sugar and sugar until creamy. Combine flour, walnuts and cornstarch and stir into egg mixture. Add chocolate mixture and fold into batter.

Pour batter onto cookie sheet and smooth out. Bake for about 20 minutes. Chocolate cake with nuts should be slightly crispy on the outside but still soft on the inside. Let cool on a cooling rack and cut into squares.
