Finely dice the onion and garlic, sauté in the fat, add the caraway seeds before adding the shredded cabbage. Cover with liquid. Place spices in gauze bag or tea infuser. Simmer quietly over low heat, in about 20 to half an hour, until cabbage is pleasantly soft.
Mustard seeds – just fry briefly with the onions.
Meat can be simmered, strongly spiced sausages perhaps rather separately, because otherwise they give the cabbage too strong an aroma.
